U.N. Climate Conference
The U.N. climate conference reached preliminary agreements on controlling greenhouse emissions and improving air quality. Conference attendees praise the agreement as an unprecedented show of cooperation between nations for the good of the world.
Phyllis Devane, founder of the International Coalition for the Environment, called the agreement "too little, too late". Devane had this to say:
"We have already passed the point where half-measures will save the human race. We have so befouled this planet that nothing short of a concerted effort will save the very biosphere that allows us to live. I call upon every nation to ban petrochemical use entirely as a first step toward cleaning our planet."
Conference attendees said the situation was not that critical, and chided Devane for playing upon fears of global despoilation.
