The Final Frontier
The National Oceanographic Institute announced today the funding of an expedition to explore the depths of the ocean. The organizer of the expedition is Dr. Heinrich Bourne, noted oceanologist. Dr. Bourne has this to say about the expedition:
"This expedition will explore the depths of the ocean in a way that no other has been able. We are using technology adapted from the ill fated Atlantis colony of a decade back. This technology combines a high-strength hull with special sonics designed to reduce the effect of ocean pressure on the vehicle. For the first time in history, mankind will be able to see with his own eyes what life exists in the depths of the ocean. This expedition will improve our understanding of the cycle of life and our place in it."
"Space has been called the final frontier, but I believe that the uniqueness and wonder of the undersea realm makes it truly the final frontier of human exploration."
The expedition is currently being outfitted, and is scheduled to depart in March. The crew of the Nautilus, as the high-tech submersible has been christened, plans on remaining under the water for a month studying undersea life.
