In My Opinion, by Mike Alfil

Recent events involving the terrorist organisation Apocalypse Now highlight the folly of depending upon so-called "superheros" to protect society in lieu of trained law enforcement officers. These "heroes" often are nothing more than anonymous, highly powered individuals of questionable mental stability and amateur capabilities. To catch a petty thief they will demolish a downtown block, with little or no regard for the risks incurred by innocent bystanders. When you can bounce bullets off your pectorals it is easy to forget that some of us are not as indestructible. Take, as a case in point, Kuraboshi's roll in the tragedy where hundreds died in Apocalypse Now's recent attack on Disneyland.

Had she not been intent upon showing off her spandex, Kuraboshi might have pondered the significance of a cropduster making several passes over the Magic Kingdom, a place where the only crops for miles around are our nation's children. Reports have it, however, that she actually knocked upon the pilot's window in midair, obviously spooking him. What was going on in that organ she calls a mind? Was she intending to communicate with the pilot via Charades? Who knows what might have happened had she called in a trained SWAT negotiator instead? These brave men and women have talked desperate suicides down off of bridges and armed terrorists into releasing innocent hostages. Surely one of them would have stood a much better chance of success. Even if the negotiator had failed he would have provided a distraction that would have allowed Kuraboshi to choose a better place to attack the plane than over thousands of innocent children.

How many more tragedies will it take before our leaders wake up and smell the coffee? Public protection should be put back into the hands of those trained for the job. A masked vigilante is no better than the criminal he claims to protect us from.
